D.C. Hospitals works to integrate information-sharing networks for robust disaster response | 01.11.2007 | 10:40:20 | Views: 4768 | ID: January 11: During a disaster, Washington D.C.-area hospitals are left out in the cold when it comes to critical field information thus many hospital officials rely on media reports to know the current state of affairs, the Washington Times reported Thursday. The solution, many say, is to create a robust information-sharing network among area hospitals so that medical responders in emergency rooms have the information they need. Throughout Thursday and Friday, "Washington Hospital Center's ER One Institute is sponsoring the fourth annual conference," designed to "improve communciation during mass-casualty events," the Times reported. Beverly Pritchett, the senior deputy director of the D.C. Department of Health, Emergency Health and Medical Services Administration told the Times it was important that area hospitals connect with local communities to prepare them for disasters. Additionally, other homeland security officials from the Washington area, New York and New Orleans will be on hand to discuss emergency response operations.
