CERT training in Illinois community | 01.23.2007 | 07:10:54 | Views: 4424 | ID: January 23 '07: Local emergency response officials in Illinois are hoping to train about 20 citizens in disaster response to help local first responders in the event of a disaster, the Daily Herald reported. The Citizen Emergency Response Teams (CERT) would be training for the Mundelein area, near Chicago. Mundelein fire Chief Craig Adams told the Daily Herald the training "isn't (for) terrorism per se. ... This is for anything." Adams says he hopes that about 20 team members to sign up for the training and to be ready by this summer. So far in the state, "20 teams have formed ... including units in the Barrington area, Buffalo Grove, Fox Lake, Hainseville, Fremont Township, Libertyville, the Long Grove and Wauconda. Lake County's Emergency Management Agency has one, too," the Daily Herald Continued. Adams said he is looking for all types of volunteers and that depending on physical limitations, people would be trained for specific purposes. "Help is help," he told the local paper. "I don't want to make it sound like we'll just take anybody, but there's a variety of things people can do, whether they're 16 or 86."
