DHS to create National Advisory Council | 02.09.2007 | 06:03:39 | Views: 5607 | ID: February 9 '07: The Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have announced the creation of a National Advisory Council that will be comprised of federal, state and local emergency management directors, non profit organizers, and private sector businesses and organizations who will work to redesign FEMA, a DHS press release announced. Those members of the NAC will be appointed by the Administrator of FEMA. The creation of the council came after FEMA's management reform legislation was passed in 2006 to revamp the agency after the response to Hurricane Katrina. FEMA Director David Paulison said in the press release, "The development of the (NAC), along with the tireless efforts of the dedicated public servants at FEMA, will go hand-in-hand in setting the course to obtain our vision for a new FEMA." "Specifically," the press release read, "the Council will focus attention in the development and revision of the national preparedness goal, the national preparedness system, the National Incident Management System, the National Response Plan, and other related plans and strategies."
