California responders test communications abilities during simulated terrorist strike | 03.09.2007 | 06:03:22 | Views: 5532 | ID: March 9 '07: In San Diego, local first responders paired with regional emergency services personnel, police officials and members of the California Department of Forestry to test communications equipment reliability, News10 in San Diego reported. The exercise simulated a terrorist attack on the Alvarado Water Treatment Facility. The operation was coordinated at an emergency operations center nearby while "various local agencies demonstrated how new tools will help them if a real attack ever happened in San Diego," News10 reported. "Different allied agencies and groups coordinated their response via video downlink from helicopters, web streaming, real-time video, video conferencing and mapping tools," the local news channel continued. The project took about a year to organize and cost the region $6 million which was provided by a mix of federal, state and local grants.
