DHS creates the National Computer Forensics Institute | 03.13.2007 | 06:37:19 | Views: 5207 | ID: March 13 '07: Alabama state officials and their federal counterparts have announced the creation of the National Computer Forensics Institute to be supervised by the Department of Homeland Security, InformationWeek reported. "The new center is focused on being an aid in the field of computer forensics and digital evidence analysis," the technology publication found according to a homeland security news release. The center also will have the participation of the U.S. Secret Service. "It will serve as a national cybercrimes training facility where state and local police officers, as well as prosecutors and judges, will be offered training and equipment," InformationWeek continued. As well as DHS, and the Secret Service, the U.S.-Computer Emergency Readiness Team will participate in the new NCFI. "The facility will include classrooms, a computer forensics lab with an advanced research and development area, an evidence vault, storage and server rooms, public education exhibit space, and a conference room .... Training will include network intrusion investigation and computer forensics, will be based on the current U.S. Secret Service curriculum," InformationWeek reported.
