Missouri health department releases senior center disaster response resources | 03.26.2007 | 08:06:23 | Views: 5517 | ID: March 26 '07: The Department of Health and Senior Services in Missouri released new resources for disaster preparedness and response for the state's adult care centers, MaxHealth reported. The ABC's of Emergency Preparedness were designed to "support collaboration among facilities, local emergency response planners, health care systems, and others involved in emergency planning and response efforts." Last year's summer heat wave followed by recent severe winter storms have underscored the need for seniors to be knowledgeable and prepared to response to a disaster, Missouri health officials said. "It might be several days before vital services are restored during emergency events," the director of the HSS in Missouri Jane Drummond told HealthMax. The program, called Ready in 3, focuses on creating a disaster response plan; build an emergency kit; and know outlets for information pertaining to disaster response. Ready in 3 "reminds Missourians of what they can do at home, school, and work to prepare for emergencies," HealthMax continued. Each adult center in the state will receive a Ready in 3 package. Each package contains instructional literature, videos and guidelines for effective disaster preparedness and response.
