North Dakota responders practice nighttime airport emergency response | 03.28.2007 | 03:52:24 | Views: 5919 | ID: March 28 '07: About 150 North Dakotan first responders and members of area schools, police, fire, public health agencies, airport personnel, and public schools will participate in a nighttime emergency response exercise at the Bismark Municipal Airport, the Bismark Tribune reported. The nighttime exercise was chosen because of the logistical difficulties it presents, organizers said. Gary Stockert, the Bismark emergency manager told the Tribune that the annual exercise at the airport is usually held during the day sometime in the summer months, but that "emergencies don't always happen during nice summer days at convenient times, so we decided to move it up a few months and make it later in the day when darkness starts to roll in." During the exercise, emergency management operators will be holding a simultaneous table-top exercise. "Bismark-Burleigh Combined Communications will handle communications during the event," the Tribune reported. "Emergency calls will go through 911 which will dispatch response unit." The Incident Command Center will be the focus of the event - whether the response can be coordinated by emergency managers is essential - organizers said. In addition to the airport and table-top exercises, "St. Alexius Medical Center, Medcenter One and the Emergency Operations Center will be conducting concurrent exercises based on the airport emergency," the Tribune reported.
