USDA announces new federal grants for telemedicine and distance learning for rural areas | 04.10.2007 | 07:14:17 | Views: 5676 | ID: April 10 '07: The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced new federal grants which will target telemedicine programs and distance learning projects to help connect rural communities to necessary resources, a departmental release announced. More than $62 million will be available to rural communities. Telemedicine efforts were outlined in the Public Health Service Act also known as BARDA, which outlined steps to take to prepare the country to respond and prepare for all health-related events. One of the goals of the legislation was to remove "the barriers" of distance and location for rural health care providers so that remote information and resources could be shared by medical officials. Also, the distance learning programs will go to help rural communities use remote resources to train students, local government officials and first responders who might not otherwise have access to that information.(Click below to download file) biohazardbarda.pdf
