More than 1,000 National Guard troops are expected to attend the exercise which will be held May 10 - 18. The planned nuclear response drill is one of the first major training exercises to be held at the center which is getting a $100 million renovation. State officials hope the center will serve in the future as a regional training facility that could operate year-round. Gov. Mitch Daniels told the AP that Muscatatuck "is going to be a new economic anchor for the area in southeastern Indiana," as well as other areas. Officials at the center said that as the renovations near completion there could be as many as 10 large-scale emergency response drills held yearly.
