The site, called Computer-Aided Management of Emergency Operations (CAMEO) Chemicals, is an addition to the original information suite developed over the last twenty years. According to Ken Barton, the acting director of the NOAA Office of Response and Restoration, "CAMEO is the most widely used chemical response software in the world. ... With CAMEO Chemicals, we've responded to user requests to improve access and ease of use of this vital information." The site will feature extensive databases of more than 6,000 chemicals and how to appropriately respond to those chemicals; more than 100,000 synonyms have also been provided by the database for various chemical names and identifiers, GovTech reported. The site will also feature a newly-revised search engine to help locate and identify chemicals and it will provide recommendations for proper response based on those searches. A summary of possible reactions when mixing chemicals has also been provided GovTech concluded.
