Poll finds local disaster response confidence up | 05.15.2007 | 11:20:15 | Views: 5646 | ID: May 15 '07: According to a poll released by the USA Today and Gallup found that local communities in the U.S. are seen as being prepared for a potential disaster while little confidence was placed on the ability for the federal government to adequately respond the Associated Press reported. The poll was released Monday and comes just a few weeks before the start of the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season. In the poll, two-thirds of those who responded said that "their local first responders were prepared for a disaster, while nearly as many said their hospitals and families were ready," the AP reported. Meanwhile, "Only three in 10 expressed the same confidence in the federal government, underscoring earlier polls that showed a lingering wariness from the slow response to Hurricane Katrina" in 2005, the AP continued.
