Telecom company partners with national group for increased 911 awareness | 06.19.2007 | 07:38:17 | Views: 5558 | ID: June 19 '07: In the Seattle metro area at the end of the week, telecom Qwest will partner with National Emergency Number Association for the Connect for Safety Initiative to help raise 9-1-1 call service awareness and best practices for families in the area, a press release announced. The partnership between Qwest and NENA has been working to integrate greater emergency call awareness with current and future 9-1-1 call technology such as the enhanced digital systems as well as increased public education about how landlines can prove useful in an emergency landlines "may be reliable during power outages," the press release said. The Connect for Safety program also is encouraging families to have an emergency household supply kit including flashlights, a battery-powered radio, first aid kit, noxious fumes detectors, fire extinguisher, and a corded landline phone. The initiative also comes this month because 9-1-1 calls peak during the summer months while people are more active. Officials said they wanted to educate the public so that the summer months could be safe.
