DHS working on credentials for private sector | 07.24.2007 | 07:05:10 | Views: 6856 | ID: July 24 '07: The Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have been working on disaster recovery and response credentials for private sector organizations which help to repair and maintain critical infrastructure, Federal Computer Week reported late last week. The news came during testimony at a Congressional hearing July 19 in Washington D.C. "Private sector workers, such as telecommunications employees, are supposed to have emergency access to disaster scenes to enable them to recover, repair and reconstitute critical communications infrastructures," FCW reported according to testimony given by Michael Hickey, the vice president for government affairs at Verizon Communications. Hickey heads the Communications Sector Coordinating Council a private sector coordinating council which helps to oversee infrastructure protection measures. The credentials system would help to identify those responding to a disaster scene so that emergency managers could delegate man-power and resources more efficiently.
