Teleworking essential in continuity of operations for government preparedness survey finds | 07.24.2007 | 08:15:15 | Views: 5465 | ID: July 24 '07: A new survey released by Juniper has found that teleworking for government employees is a best practice which strengthens continuity of operations in the event of an emergency. The results were announced in a press release on Monday. Charles Church, the chief information officer for the Department of Homeland Security's National Protection and Programs Directorate said, "the survey shows that we are moving in the right direction for emergency preparedness ... that teleworking is a 'must have' for effective COOP planning." "Organizations can be more prepared for COOP through the normal practice of telework at all levels of the organization," the survey wrote. "If the director of an organization functions everyday from his or her office, how will he/she cope with working from a hotel room where information, support, or technology is not readily available or significantly different?" Haywood Talcove, the vice president, Public Sector Americas, Juniper Networks said in the press release, "We all know hat emergencies can strike anytime. We believe that COOP functionality must be turned on not only in times of crises, but as a part of government's daily routine. ... The value of the right information in the decision-making process during emergencies can mean the difference between life and death."(Click below to download file) coop_ldrship_series_govt_foundation.pdf
