The total campaign will last until September 2 and is expected to raise about $1 million in funds. Details of the program included the companies "inviting customers to donate a loonie (Canadian dollar coin) at the cash registers ... Funds raised during this campaign stay within local communities, and will help to provide urgently needed relief items during disasters and beyond." "Additionally," the press release continued, "Wal-Mart's sponsorship helps Canadian Red Cross keep stockpiles of emergency supplies such as blankets and hygiene kits ...
