San Francisco works to prepare city for disasters through initiative | 08.23.2007 | 09:19:38 | Views: 6825 | ID: August 23 '07: San Francisco city officials have begun a $22 million area-wide initiative to prepare the city for a disaster by improving communication and response plans through the Bay Area Super-Urban Area Initiative. Washington Technology reported that to help the city with its response plans, IFC International will help support the formation of a consortium of counties. The contracts given to IFC total $1.6 million and it will help IFC address ways to increase public awareness while promoting public campaigns to help elucidate best practices; codify and complete an assessment of the city's medical response and efficiency; and to help identify ways to increase the efficacy of mass-immunization implementation in the event of a pandemic or bio-terror attack. WashTech reported that the counties around the Bay Metro Area will have representatives participating in fields "such as emergency management and medical services, law enforcement and public health."
