Organization works to help field ID integration for local responders | 09.11.2007 | 08:51:24 | Views: 5730 | ID: September 11 '07: PC World reported that a new consortium of security vendors "is trying to make it easier for emergency personnel to identify themselves at the scene of the disaster." The group, called Tiers of Trust, first will focus on local and state response offices, with the hopes of creating a "nationwide ID system that will prevent the logistical snafus that first responders experienced during" the attacks on 9/11. The ID system would be based on the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS 201). Trust officials told PC World that they would work to help small local communities with integrating and updating their credentials programs to come inline with federal standards - which can be costly. Security groups associated with the consortium include PGP Corp., HID Global Corp., and Security Network Systems LLC. The group's website is set to go live on September 11.
