Red Cross and Business Roundtable partner for greater corporate preparedness | 09.24.2007 | 07:20:01 | Views: 6093 | ID: September 24 '07: The Red Cross and the Business Roundtable have announced a new partnership to help increase the nation's corporate emergency preparedness, a Red Cross press release announced. The new partnership will work for "communicating and coordinating and preparing for disasters on a national level," Red Cross CEO Mark Everson said during a press conference. The partnership also will build upon the current disaster preparedness efforts which the Roundtable has undertaken. In the press release, Red Cross officials said the partnership will make "it easier for the private and nonprofit sectors to work together to build up our nation's disaster response system by opening new communications channels to improve the flow of information between the business community and the Red Cross." The partnership also will "focus on matching the needs of the community with appropriate resources companies have to offer before and following a disaster," through the use of the Roundtable's disaster website (mentioned in the above link). During the press conference, officials from both organizations said their goal was to increase partnerships to strengthen preparedness and not just response. "What's different here is that we're collaborating in advance, not after disaster strikes," McGraw-Hill President and & CEO and Roundtable Chairman Harold McGraw III, said. "We're taking a giant step to ensure the private and nonprofit sectors work together to prepare and respond to disaster and help the American people."
