The new plant, to be managed and built by Micrology, a subsidiary of Environmental Power, will provide about 235,000 MMBtu per year, about 25 percent of the plant's total energy needs which equals about 1.7 million gallons of oil. The meat plant, owned by the JBS Swift & Co, will buy the energy from Micrology through a 15-year contract. Dennis Sydow, the vice president and general manager of the facility based in Grand Island, Nebraska said, "Our plant will benefit from a new cost-effective source of fuel derived from waste materials generated by our activities, allowing us to improve the environmental sustainability of our operations." Officials working on the new initiative said that the plant will continue to explore new ways of producing energy for operations as well as working on ways to secure the energy supply for the plant. The new system will have 3 skilled operators and a facility manager to oversee operations.
