South Carolina program collaborates with health care professionals to provide disaster training | 01.31.2008 | 10:53:17 | Views: 5585 | ID: January 31 '08: A collaborative project is practicing professional health care providers in South Carolina "for bioterrorism and public health emergency event recognition and response." The group is called the Disaster Preparedness and Response Training Network and it is funded through a $3.5 million federal grant from the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response in the Department of Health and Human Services. The preparedness and training network is an effort by the South Carolina Area Health Education Consortium which began in 1972 and functions through a cooperation between the Medical University of South Carolina, the University of South Carolina, South Carolina community teaching hospitals, and regional AHEC centers. Currently, the disaster response and training network's activities include "providing regional and statewide training programs, serving vulnerable populations including children and the elderly, and addressing high risk target areas including rural communities, ports/coastal areas, and nuclear/checmical facilities." The network also has established a Resource Library which houses information on curriculum development for training on disaster preparedness. Information is available in audio, video, software, mixed media and text formats. The information also can be searched with search engines.
