United Technologies Power installs on-site power generation in Connecticut hospital | 02.04.2008 | 08:48:22 | Views: 5278 | ID: February 4 '08: A press release from December '07 announced a new partnership between UTC Power and Windham Community Memorial Hospital in Windham, Connecticut to install an "ultra clean, on-site power, cooling and heating" system which can operate at 90 percent efficiency. The hospital will have UTC's PureComfort© Model 260 and two PureThermal© Model 65 units installed. The systems run on natural gas and geothermal power, respectively. The new power source for the hospital will significantly reduce the medical center's energy requirements as well as save more than a million gallons of water previously needed to cool power generation systems. Compared to the nation's energy grid's efficiency which stands about 33 percent, hospital officials one of the side advantages also would be a reduction in overall hospital emissions. UTC has said itscurrent technologies offerings provide good solutions to emergency response agencies, and other time-critical organizations. A greater independence from the national power grid, in addition to redundant and backup power generating capabilities allow hospitals and organizations to operate even when power emergencies affect the surrounding communities.
