Chesapeake Innovation Center helps businesses develop effective HLS focus | 02.04.2008 | 09:33:14 | Views: 6125 | ID: February 4 '08: The Chesapeake Innovation Center in Anne Arundel County, Maryland has been helping businesses develop strategic homeland security-related models and focus. Recently two new companies, MGB Ltd. Spearhead Innovations which develops handheld container inspection devices and in-container detection technology, and OnLine LinkUp which builds "affinity networking websites" have joined. The CIC's press release noted, "MGB ... has developed the Product Acoustic Signature System (PASS), a portable hand held unit and the Hazardous/Incendiary Liquid Detection Apparatus (HILDA), a desk top version of its patented acoustic technology for non-intrusive inspection, rapid identification and measurement of liquids and bulk-solids in sealed containers." OnLine LinkUp develops social networking web communities for the governmental and homeland security communities. "Each website is targeted to a specific community and connected by a single sign-on structure to the other websites in the system," the CIC press release said. Those services provided by OnLine LinkUp are another example of the growing market and capability of social networks in the HLS and emergency response communities. On its website, CIC said it is working to mold "innovative technology and business models with our government agency and corporate Partners who contract the CIC to identify specific technology solutions." The Baltimore Business Journal reported that CIC has been involved in the Technology Acceleration for National Security Network which enables "government agencies and major corporations to identify and nurture key security technologies [and that] ...Market intelligence, networking, teaming on contracts and other proprietary services," will be available to members.
