Meals-ready-to-eat help during disasters | 02.26.2008 | 09:37:45 | Views: 6108 | ID: February 26 '08: Ameriqual, makers of meals-ready-to-eat, has developed the APack self-heating emergency meal. The APack has a long shelf-life - up to three years, and can be ready to eat in under 10 minutes, the company's product website read. The company also contracts with the Department of Defense to provide MREs to American military personnel, the Evansville Courier & Press reported. Currently, there are six different varieties of the APack which include anything from beef stew, to paste with garden vegetables with a tomato sauce. "If an earthquake, hurricane, winter storm or other disaster strikes your community, you might not have access to food, water and electricity for days, or even weeks," the company said. "By taking some time now to store emergency food and water supplies, you can provide for your entire family." During ice storms in December FEMA sent out a press release detailing the ways in which federal and state emergency response teams were delivering MREs and other essential supplies to those who were without power in sub zero temperatures, Continuity Central reported. CampingSurvival.com wrote that the company also provides a Ready Meals pack which contains 12 meal packs. National Blueprint Tags: Response & Containment, Citizen & Community
