Massachusetts community hosts new emergency preparedness website and emergency command center | 03.18.2008 | 08:44:12 | Views: 5562 | ID: March 18 '08: The Eagle Tribune in North Andover, Massachusetts reported on the local community's new emergency management command center and website which officials say will help to distribute greater preparedness awareness among the community. The new website contains "links to other sites that provide information about local utility companies, mass transportation and extreme weather such as snowstorms, thunderstorms, hurricanes and droughts." To help pay for the new emergency command center, the local community received "money seized by federal agents from drug-dealers," the Eagle Tribune reported. North Andover Police Chief Alan DeNaro told the paper the new website is "one of the best around. It's a great resource for the public" and that the emergency command center will help to link the responder agencies together in the event of a disaster. "The protocol allows police and city services to work together and communicate with all our resources including MEMA (Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency), FEMA, local hospitals and schools," DeNaro continued. Currently, city officials said they are looking for community volunteers for the Civilian Emergency Response Team and the Medical Reserve Corps. Those interested can find more information at the city's website. National Blueprint Tags: Communications & Public Info, Citizen & Community.
