The new $9.1 million radio network will integrate emergency response communications for the city interoperably among fire, police, EMS and other agencies and it will be available for 31 agencies in the Santa Clara County area. The Emergency Communications (ECOMM) will be a private radio network which will link 14 911 call centers together in the county with voice, data and video capabilities using high-speed connections. The project is funded through federal grants provided by DHS. Santa Clara County and Harris Stratex corporate officials said they are working to construct the system through partnerships driven by the City of San Jose and the Silicon Valley Regional Interoperability Project, a partnership of local public safety agencies to create interoperable communications for emergency response. Scott Seaman, Chief of Police of Los Gatos and the Chairman of the SVRIP said in the press release, "This innovative program developed by the SRVIP links agencies and entities throughout Santa Clara County with a high speed interoperability network that will improve communications, dispatch and response to all regional incidents, enhance information sharing and allow for many other important partners to add their systems at a future date." The ECOMM will link first response agency radios to an interconnected computer aided dispatch network. The radio system will work on the 700/150 MHz frequency. Completion of the network is projected for fall 2008, the press release read. National Blueprint Tags: Response & Containment, Economic & Infrastructure, Public Health & Medical.
