UNH partnership works to integrate technologies for interoperable communications | 04.15.2008 | 10:51:29 | Views: 6149 | ID: April 15 '08: The University of New Hampshire has partnered with the state's Department of Safety with the support of the US Department of Justice to develop Project54. The stated goal of Project54 is to help integrate communications technology which was developed without extensibility or integration in mind. Project54's CATlab has out-rigged more than 913 police cruisers in New Hampshire and helped to demonstrate a new digital television communications capability in Las Vegas with Harris Corporation and LG. According to its website, Project54 "also integrates police cruisers into state-wide data networks. Our system integration efforts include work on integrating the radio systems of multiple agencies. Law enforcement, emergency, and other state and federal agencies have radio system, but they are often not able to talk to each other directly. We are creating an Internet-based system that will allow these agencies to use their current radio equipment and have access to other agencies' radio links." During the National Association of Broadcasters' annual convention in Las Vegas, members of Project54 helped to demonstrate the new capabilities of the MPH digital television information solution, a press release reported. MPH will allow members of the general public as well as first responder officials to access information, video, voice and data over a high speed connection using a hand-held device even while traveling at high speeds. On the project's website, a list of users has been provided to show the extent to which the technology integration is being used.
